i (heart) explorers

redwood richard preston's article "tall for its age"
in the current new yorker, about
surveying a record-setting redwood
is refreshingly vivid,
without those listy bits
you have to skip
in most new yorker articles.
it makes science and trees
and climbing trees for science
sound so boyishly charming
and matter of fact
at the same time,
sort of like
shakleton.

In the year after you posted this, did you ever get the book which followed?

The Wild Trees

In my hiking adventures, several of the redwoods were located. Made for some fun and photos.

Hyperion and Largest Redwoods

One of those older New Yorker articles is still online, at a site by Wes Jones who archived a copy.
