more than you ever imagined

when i saw this trailer
i laughed one sharp laugh
liked i'd been punched
in the stomach, then
sat with my mouth agape.
my best friend did a verbal
double-take "did they just say
bridge to ... terabithia?" yes,
disney mutilates beyond recognition
yet another slow, tender, and elegantly
written storybook for children
with overzealous c.g.i.
and (dare i even say it?)
layered arm-warmers.

Hmmm...never heard of this book before. My one observation at this point (just from watching the trailer mind you) is that it should be more accurately entitled "The Rope Swing to Terabithia." I'm sure a bridge will be built in the future when state and local funding can be matched with federal dollars, but until then the publisher shouldn't mislead the reader. There is no bridge. Make that clear up front.

Slow and tender? Sounds more like anniversary sex than a children's book.
